About The Savage Science
Boxing has a long history of top notch writing--Jack Fiske, Hank Kaplan and Bert Sugar to name a few. It's even received its fair share of attention from literary figures including Ernest Hemingway, Norman Mailer and Joyce Carol Oates. MMA, conversely, hasn't set the qualitative bar for its writers particularly high. The primary goal of THE SAVAGE SCIENCE is to change that. Our world class team of writers drawn not only from fight sports but other disciplines will provide the genesis for a body of serious MMA literature, analysis and commentary that has until now been absent. In addition, we'll tell the story of the sport's fascinating history from the Japanese martial arts scene of the early 20th century, to the rise of "strong style" pro wrestling and its evolution into fight organizations like PRIDE and RINGS. Here in the US, we'll recount the growth of MMA from a curiosity attraction targeting pro wrestling fans and lovers of random violence to the UFC fueled boom we're experiencing today.
Our secondary goal is to report and comment on the popular culture both here and abroad that has spawned the MMA boom. We'll also keep you informed of other types of sports "mayhem" that deliver the same hard hitting excitement and intensity as mixed martial arts. The current MMA product and its popularity is inextricably bound to other tangentially related media--music, video games, energy drinks, fashion and countless other market segments.
MMA is by its nature a chaotic, unpredictable sport. At present, there's as much chaos, transformation and change behind the scenes as there is in the ring or the cage. With the sport evolving before our very eyes, simultaneously influencing and being shaped by so many elements of popular culture and sports business we realize the necessity of taking a holistic approach to what's going on.
THE SAVAGE SCIENCE is your source for the news and commentary about the world's fastest growing combat sport delivered with the same enthusiasm and intensity that makes you love MMA in the first place.
Welcome to THE SAVAGE SCIENCE--the future of fight sport journalism.
